To many the end of football season is just the beginning of basketball, but to others it’s the time to get stronger. It’s the time for competitive weight lifting that is power lifting. The new head coach Sean Barry and assistant coach Troy Ostrum are looking forward to this year’s season. “We are going to win and be the strongest,” are the only words spoken form these master lifters. They encourage all to join and be a part of the power lifting team. Coach Barry and Coach Ostrum are strong and dedicated to lifting a mentality that they hope will be a part of their new lifters as well.

The competition was the last contest for the Indian Band in the 2012-2013 season.
The Band will perform for the final time on Friday, November 9th, with their award winning show ‘Tales From The Westside.’ The show consists of three pieces, ‘Time’ ‘Energy’ and ‘Space.’
For most students, the end of the season is nothing but bittersweet.
“I’ll miss the laughs of bus rides, and the feelings after a performance, but I can’t wait to say goodbye to the 0 period practices.” – Junior Carly Zuniga.

As of October 24th, the sounds of basketballs hitting the floor can be heard coming from the High School gym. Although there aren’t as many girls as previous years that have come out to play, the season is looking very promising. The Squaws went straight to work, starting the first day, and the coaches are working hard to make sure the girls are as polished as they can be before their first game against Karnes City on Tuesday, November 6th.

This year’s motto for girl’s athletics is “All In.” Since Volleyball season, the girls have been breaking out their huddles with this saying, and it carried over into basketball. It is very obvious during practices and conditioning that the girls are definitely “All In,” as they work towards their goal: PLAYOFFS!

Senior Service Day was a blast this year at Jourdanton High School!

Seniors were sold for weeks leading up to the legendary day of service, which just so happened to fall on Halloween, October 31st.

This is significant because many of the seniors were dressed up in costumes ranging from dashing to downright funny.

Some of the more popular costumes included Jennifer Alvord and Kori Hilla as a demon and angel, respectively; Travis Huckleberry as the Pillsberry Doughboy (with Austin Darrow outfitted in an oven chasing him through the halls); and Ian Chachere dressed as a giant penguin.

On the bright side, many seniors didn’t have to worry about buying a Halloween costume.

While being a day of laughter and games, Senior Service Day was also the largest Senior fundraiser for the year, with some groups sold for over $100 dollars! Thank you to all who supported our seniors!

A final reminder for future Senior Service Days – keep it classy, enjoyable, and most importantly, original!

Jourdanton High School has three foreign exchange students this school year.

This year, all three are from Europe.

Marta – a senior, is from Portugal, Malthe – a junior , is from Denmark, and Elina – a sophomore, is from Finland.

Malthe started to play football on Junior Varsity team, even though he has never played before, and Marta is a cheerleader.

It has been over two months since they arrived here.

It seems that all of them are getting used to the life here and being a part of our school.

High school life here in the USA is different than in Europe, but it’s exciting to see all of the new different things. For example high school spirit and support for the school.

They have a lot of things to see and experience, and they have still a long way to go, but after that they are 1000 memories and experiences richer.

It is great experience to travel and see the world, see new way of the life, get new international friends, and just live in a different culture, live your life as a local, but thousand miles away from home.

But where is real home?

Is it where you are from and used to live, or is it where you live at this time?

I think home is where your heart is. I think that after an exchange student year their hearts are in two different places. They have two homes, two families, two cultures where to live and two different lives.

That is something you can call richness.

Every Monday and Thursday about thirty kids are hard at work in the cafeteria trying to bring you the best possible performance in December. ” The Rimers of Eldrich ” is a classic play that tells a tale that shakes around the spectators emotions. Mr. Robert Chaney, English teacher and theater director, says the rehearsals are going well.

The first public performance of the play should be sometime in late December. The play will be preformed publicly three times. Students are working hard on the subtle things and facial expressions and reactions towards other character’s lines.

“We need to polish, polish and polish,” said Chaney ‘and after we’re done with the polishing, we might be ready to go.”
